In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how I do my smokey-eye look.

If you’ve been too intimidated to try a smokey-eye look before, out of fear that you’ll end up looking like a panda, this tutorial is for you.

I’ll be walking you step by step through my easy yet effective technique.

Tools and materials:

  • Gel eyeshadow
  • Powdered eyeshadow
  • Makeup brushes
  • False lashes
  • Setting powder
Creating a base

1. Create base

First, apply a black gel eyeshadow as a base. You only want to apply this to your lid, stopping when you reach your crease.

Blending

2. Blend it out

Next, use a round brush to blend it out.

3. Add eyeshadow

Now add some matte eyeshadow to the bottom of your lid with a flat brush to build up the intensity of color.

Proceed to blend it into your gel eyeshadow.

Creating smokey effect

4. Create a smokey effect

Take some eyeshadow in a blush shade and apply it to the crease of your lids above where you’ve applied the black eyeshadow.

Then smoke it out by moving your brush around in circular motions to blend it in with the black and create a gradually fading-out effect.

Blush might seem like an unexpected color to use, but it actually works really well with the black.

Creating smokey effect

5. Go over the black

Go over the black section at the bottom, as it may have become faded from adding the blush shade above.

We want the black at the bottom to remain dark and intense.

Applying setting powder

6. Apply setting powder

The next step is to apply setting powder under your eyebrows to give that area a smooth finish.

Blending

7. Blend

Now blend all of the lines because we don’t want any harsh lines showing.

Adding false lashes

8. Apply false lashes

Applying shimmer

9. Apply shimmer to inner corners

Apply a little dab of shimmery bronze eyeshadow to the inner corners of your eye on either side. This will add a subtle bit of shine.

10. Line eyes

The final step for the smokey-eye look is to apply black eyeshadow under your eyes to line them with a thin brush.

Wing the inner corners.

Completed smokey eyeshadow look

Now I’m just finishing the rest of the makeup on my face and we're done!

Smokey eyeshadow look

I adore how the smokey-eye look turned out. As you can see, I added some gold shimmery eyeshadow below the waterline as well.

Every girl needs to know how to create a smokey-eye look, so if you didn’t know how to already, now you do!
