Easy Face Contouring Makeup Tutorial for Older Women

As we age, our facial features naturally change, and it's common to experience a bit of sagging or a loss of definition.

However, with the right makeup techniques, especially face contouring, we can highlight our best features and restore a youthful glow.

In this makeup tutorial for older women, I'll show you how to contour your face and add back that youthful definition.

The products I'm using today are from the  Look Fabulous Forever range, made specifically for mature skin. However, you can achieve the same results with any brand of product.

Tools and materials:

  • Foundation
  • Translucent powder
  • Blush (soft, neutral shade)
  • Bronzer
  • Highlighter
  • Blush brush
  • Contour/bronzer brush
  • Highlighter brush or small brush for precision
  • Foundation brush (optional for blending bronzer)

1. Preparing the base

Before I begin contouring, I like to make sure my foundation is set. I use a translucent powder to create a smooth surface.

This step helps ensure that my makeup blends easily and doesn’t stick or look patchy. It’s particularly helpful when working with bronzer and blush because it allows for a seamless application.

Tip: A light dusting of translucent powder provides a lovely, even base and helps keep makeup in place throughout the day, especially for mature skin.

2. Adding blusher for a healthy glow

For me, blush is essential to adding some color and life back into my complexion. I use a soft, flattering shade that works well with my skin tone.

When applying it, I focus on the apples of my cheeks and blend it upwards in a pear shape. I find that this gives my face a subtle lift, which is especially important as we get older.

After applying, I always blend well to avoid any harsh edges.

Tip: Don’t be afraid to use a little extra blush—if it feels too strong, you can always soften it by blending. The right amount of color really brightens the face and brings back that healthy glow.

3. Contouring with bronzer

When it comes to contouring, I prefer a natural approach. I use bronzer in the classic “three” shape—sweeping it along the forehead, under my cheekbones, and along the jawline.

This gives me a bit of definition and warmth, mimicking the natural effect of sunlight on the skin. I also apply a touch under my chin and along the jaw to define areas that tend to lose shape as we age.

Tip: A light hand with bronzer goes a long way—just enough to give a healthy, sun-kissed look without overdoing it.

4. Highlight for extra definition

For a finishing touch, I like to add a bit of highlighter to enhance my features further. I apply it to the tops of my cheekbones, just under my brow, and a little at the inner corners of my eyes.

These small dabs of light-reflecting product help lift the face and bring attention to the areas that catch the light naturally.

Tip: Less is more with highlighter—just a subtle glow is enough to make your skin look fresh and radiant without emphasizing any fine lines.

LESS is more. Especially as we age.Yet this has so many different products being applied it is far from natural looking. Maybe taking care of skin at 35 or 40 is the answer to looking good without all that makeup when you reach your 60s & beyond. Nothing ages you more than piles of makeup, no matter how carefully applied!

Several products applied with a light touch. I think this lady’s makeup is very flattering. Ideally we could all go back to our 30’s or 40’s and know what we know now. Since we can’t do that we have to do the best we can with what we have. I hope I look this good when I am her age. We also can choose to be kind or not. I have made my decision and I see you have made yours.
