Fool-Proof Eyeshadow Hack for Flawless Makeup Every Time

This tutorial is different than usual because I’m not going to show you how to apply eyeshadow. Instead, I’m going to mess it up to show you how to make it look better! Follow along to try this amazing eyeshadow hack with me!

Tools and materials: 

• Assorted makeup brushes
• Eyeshadow primer or concealer
• Translucent loose powder
• Rose gold eyeshadow palette
• Highlighter
• Black eyeliner pencil
• Eyelash curler
• Mascara
• Faux eyelashes set
• Tweezers
• Brow pencil 
• Lipstick

1. Prime your eyelids

Before applying eyeshadow, it’s always a good idea to prime your lids. I’m using a concealer, but you can definitely use a designated eyeshadow primer.

2. Set your lids

Apply a translucent loose powder to set your eyelids. You don’t need too much powder – just enough for the concealer to absorb and set. 

3. Apply eyeshadow

I’m using this rose gold palette:

Randomly apply the eyeshadow colors you like over the mobile lid.

For this makeup tip, use your index or ring finger to lightly dab over the eyeshadow. After a few passes over the lid, you’ll notice that the eyeshadow is completely blended. 

4. Apply a transitional eyeshadow

Pick a transitional eyeshadow shade and use it to blend out the edges at the crease. Then use your finger to blend this color. 

5. Fix and conceal

If you took the color too high up, or if it still looks blotchy, carefully apply some concealer where needed.

Then use a blending brush to blend it out and set it with translucent powder. This will give you a clean slate to try again at blending at the crease. 

Take a small amount of the transitional shade and re-blend at the crease. The blotchiness happens when you use too much eyeshadow. 

Another makeup tip I often use if the eyeshadow is looking blotchy is to use a shimmer or glitter to completely conceal it.

Focus the shimmer on the center of the lid and lightly spread it out with your finger.

6. Define the outer corners

This is optional, but if you’d like to define the outer corners of your eyes, use a darker eyeshadow there.

And of course, if you mess this up, use your finger to lightly dab it out.

7. Highlight the inner corners

Use highlighter to brighten the inner corner of your eyes.

8. Line your eyes

Use the transitional shade from your crease and sweep it across your lower lash lines.

After smoking it out, use the deeper shade that you applied at the outer corners right on top. Then, with a larger brush, smoke everything out. 

Then use a black eyeliner pencil to tightline.

9. Curl your lashes

Give your lashes a light with an eyelash curler.

10. Apply mascara

Darken your upper and lower lashes with mascara.

11. Apply faux eyelashes

Use tweezers to carefully apply faux eyelashes following the instructions from the package. 

Here’s the finished eye – nobody will even guess that you made any mistakes along the way!

To finish off the look, I’m lining my lips with a brow pencil.

Apply lip color too.
