How to Style This Popular Accessory From the Past

Do you remember the banana clip? Once everyone seemed to have one but I haven’t seen them around for a while.

If you have long thick hair like mine, summer probably isn’t your favorite season.

I always wear my hair up when it’s hot, but I do get bored with the usual summer updos. Could the humble banana clip come to my rescue? Let’s see!

Tools and materials:

  • Banana clip
  • Hair brush
Gathering the hair

1. Gather

Brush through your hair, giving it as much volume as possible.

For me, this means bending forward and brushing from root to tip with my head upside down, then throwing my hair back.

Comb through your hair with your fingers and gather it into a high ponytail.

Clipping the hair

2. Clip

Open the clip as wide as possible.

Pull your hair up with one hand. Place the clip underneath it, close to your head but not touching it.

Clipping the hair

Let go of your hair and allow it to fall into the open clip.

Make sure all your hair is inside the clip.

Clipping the hair

Holding one side of the clip in each hand, pull the comb part up through your hair so it grips it firmly.

Clipping the hair

Still pulling your hair upwards, snap the top section of the clip together.

Arranging the hair

3. Arrange

Steady the clip with one hand.

With the other, pull sections of your hair through it.

Arranging the hair

Arrange the loose hair either side of the clip.

The banana clip keeps your hair off the back of your neck, which is so much cooler.

Your ponytail looks full of volume and will stay in place all day.
