Starting point

Here’s my starting point.

JLo’s makeup artist, Scott Barnes, says the key to flawless, perfect, long-lasting, non-creasy under eyes is…lip balm!

Who knew!? I’m going to try this celebrity makeup hack all the way, using it under a full, bronzy, JLo smokey eye look, complete with a bronzy gown and gorgeous hair.

Then we’re going to take away all the softening lights and high tech camera lenses so that you can see the actual results for yourselves. Then we’ll see how it looks a few hours later, still in natural light.

1. Apply your smokey eye makeup

Use warm browns and bronze eyeshadows to create a smokey eye look, complete with eyeliner and mascara.

Since I don’t show these steps for this makeup hack, check out my tutorial here for how to create a smokey eye look, just using a bronze palette.

2. Apply lip balm

Now for the fun part! Apply lip balm to your under eye area. I’m using the Aquaphor variety which you can feel is very dense.

Apply the lip balm to the nasolabial creases, from the sides of your nostrils down to the sides of your lips. Apply some around your lips as well. Let’s see if this not only prevents creasing, but also helps the makeup to stay on all day.

3. Foundation

Apply your foundation with a makeup brush.

Use a smaller brush in tighter areas for more precision.

4. Apply concealer

Apply concealer in your dark, red and blue zones to camouflage and color-correct. The peachy-orange tone cancels out the blue, which I have a lot of under my eyes. If I didn’t do this step, my under eye area would look ashy.

Applying concealer

Stipple that out with a brush.

My first impression of the completed side is that it looks very smooth.

5. Contour

Snatch the face by applying a contour stick along the hairline, connecting to your cheekbones.

Contouring

Blend with a brush.

I usually wear more natural makeup, but this definitely gives me the cheekbones of my dreams.

6. Brighten

Apply brightening concealer.

Then stipple with a brush to blend it out. Use pressing motions to push the concealer into the skin and also build up anything you want to hide.

7. Apply setting powder

Apply setting powder under your eyes with a brush. I’m specifically avoiding using a powder puff since that will be too heavy if you have mature skin and want to stop the creasing under your eyes.

8. Smoke out your under eyes

Shade out your lower lash line using bronze eyeshadow.

9. Apply blush

If you have mature skin, apply your blush with the focus on moving it upward to lift your face, almost in a C formation. Keeping the blush higher will draw attention away from your nasal labial folds.

Adding blush

If you’re aiming for more glow, apply cream colored blush on top of the rosy shade.

10. Lips

Apply lip liner in a shade that’s close to your natural lip color. The nude lip is very JLo.

Lining the lips

Then apply a nude lipstick.

I felt like the nude lip was blending away into my face. If your complexion is similar, try popping out your lips slightly with a mauve lip gloss.

Now I’ll give my hair the glam treatment and put on my bronze gown! After this, we’ll see how this no crease makeup hack works after letting the makeup set.

I decided to highlight my brow bone to complete this look.

Highlighting brows

No joke – my undereyes have never looked better!

I attribute this to both finding the right concealer that works for my skin as well as the viscous consistency of the Aquaphor lip balm.

Here we are again in natural light after a few hours. All I’ve done is redo my lipstick, and as you can see, the under eye area is holding up!
