Quick and Easy-to-make Patchwork Tote Bag

I’m going to show you a tote bag sewing pattern so you can learn how to make an easy tote bag on your own.

We’re going to get extra creative with some patchwork too. Let’s get started!

Tools and materials:

• Fabric
• Straps
• Scissors
• Ruler
• Sewing machine
• Snaps

1. Patchwork

Cut 4 pieces of fabric at 10 by 10 inches. Sew them together to make one 20 by 20-inch square patch. Sew the patches together with the right sides facing in. Then topstitch to press down all the seams.

2. Strap

Add a bag handle that is 1.5 by 26 inches. Sew the top edges of the strap to the top edge of the bag with the handle facing down.

3. Corner cut-outs

Trace box corners at the bottom of the bag at 2.5 by 2.5 inches. Then cut them out.

4. Repeat

Repeat all the above steps to create the other side of the bag.

5. Lining

Add some lining at the same measurements as the bag. Place the lining on the bag with the right sides facing in, then sew the top edge of the lining to the top edge of the bag. Do this for both sides of the bag.

6. Place both sides together

Open the bag pieces and lining and place them right sides facing in. The seams should be aligned so that the lining faces the lining and the outer bag faces the other outer bag piece.

7. Connect the pieces

Sew the pieces together all the way around, leaving an opening of about 4 inches at the side of the lining.

8. Sew the corners

Open the cut-out corner so the opposite sides connect and pin them together. Then sew. Do this on all 4 corners.

9. Right side out

Go to the opening and turn the bag right side out. Sew the opening closed.

10. Topstitch

Push the lining into the bag and topstitch all around the edges of the bag.

11. Add a snap

Add a snap button and you’re all set!
