Turn 4 Walmart Potholders Into THIS! 🤯

Potholders are so versatile, and seeing all the juicy colors they come in really sparks my creativity.

I put this very cute accessory together in about half an hour. The only sewing required is to attach a single button.

So let’s get to it!

Tools and materials:

  • 3 potholders
  • Matching yarn
  • Button
  • Hot glue gun
  • Fabric marker
  • Scissors
  • Hand sewing needle and thread

1. Materials

It was this fabulous color that inspired me.

Potholders are usually sold in pairs so you’ll need two sets although we’re only going to use three of them. No reason you couldn’t use contrasting colors though.

Yarn

Get some matching or contrast double knit or chunky acrylic yarn too.

2. Hot glue

Glue two of the potholders together close to the binding.

Hot gluing the potholders

Put the glue along one short side and about two thirds of the longer sides.

Make sure to leave the top open.

3. Button up

Glue about one half of the third potholder to the back of the first two, so it extends above them.

Buttoning the potholder up

Flip the extended section over to the front and mark where the center of the loop touches the front.

Hand sew a button to the front at the mark.

Braiding the yarn

4. Braiding

Braid some yarn, double or single, into a long length for a shoulder strap.

Braided yarn

Knot both ends.

Gluing

Glue them securely inside the bag on each side, at the base of the opening.

Now I have the cutest little summer bag made out of potholders.

For extra security, you can sew the ends of the strap inside the bag as well.

I was shocked at how easy this was and how well it turned out. Let me know in the comments what you think of it.
