Tools and materials:Â
- Placemat
- Belt
- Glue gun
- Scissors
1. Fold placemat
Start by taking a placement - I’ve opted for a beige one with cute tassels at either end. Place the placement on your work surface in a portrait position with the top side facing down and then fold up the bottom third, like so.
2. Glue the sides
Take a glue gun and glue down the two folded sides.
3. Fold down top
Now fold down the top of the placemat so that the tassels rest on the bottom of the placement rather than hanging off the edge. This forms the shape of our bag.
4. Add belt to bag
Take a skinny leather belt and place the buckle on the bottom part of the bag, as shown.
Bring the rest of the belt around the back of the bag.
5. Trim off excess
Trim off the excess part of the belt, but make sure to leave enough length so that the belt can still be fastened securely.
6. Apply glue to bag
Apply glue to the section of the bag where the belt will be attached.
7. Add belt
Then place the belt on top of the glued area and do up the buckle.
Here is the finished bag!
Cute DIY clutch bag made from a placemat
I love how stylish this looks! The tassels add a chic touch, and the belt makes it practical by allowing the bag to fasten securely. It was incredibly easy to create - who would have thought it all began as a simple placemat?
