How to style a button-down shirt

1. Do a cross-tuck

I'm starting by pairing a black shirt with a chocolate brown mini skirt. If you think black and brown can’t be worn together, think again.

Try a cross tuck: tuck one side of your shirt into the opposite side of your skirt, and do the same with the other side.

2. Add a belt

Next, I’m adding a skinny black belt with a gold buckle to define my waist.

I really like the crossover style of the miniskirt that you can see here because it creates a visually interesting effect.

3. Finish with accessories

To accessorize, I’m adding a large gold bangle as a statement piece, together with a thick gold necklace that both complement the gold sandals I’m wearing.

To complete the look, I added a leopard print bag that features both black and brown tones.

I’m really pleased with the final result — the open V-shaped neckline of the shirt is flattering and highlights my necklace, while the criss-cross tuck adds a stylish and interesting detail.
