In this tutorial, we’re talking about how to transition your makeup from summer to autumn as seasons change so you can rock a fall-inspired makeup look.

Although there are no rules about wearing the same colors you wore throughout the summer, changing up your makeup alongside the changes in light and your wardrobe can make you feel like a brand new person.

Let’s jump right into my favorite tips!

The products I'm using today are from the Look Fabulous Forever range, made specifically for mature skin. However, you can achieve the same results with any brand of product.

Tools and materials:

  • Exfoliator
  • Hydrating clay mask
  • Hydration serum
  • Foundation
  • Blush
  • Bronzer
  • Eyeshadow
  • Lipstick
Face exfoliator

1. Use a face exfoliator weekly

Your skin can take on a lot of damage from the sun or pool chlorine, and it might even become more dehydrated as you switch on the central heating.

So, as autumn approaches, you might find it in need of a bit of TLC. Use a gentle face exfoliator weekly as the end of summer rolls in.

This will remove the layer of debris and dead skin cells to help you better prepare your skin for makeup.

2. Apply hydrating clay masks to help reintroduce moisture

Hydrating clay masks are particularly great after exfoliating to help boost the moisture levels in your skin.

Hydration serum

3. Use a hydration serum to improve your moisturizer

Hydration face serum— especially one that has hyaluronic acid in it —acts as a moisture magnet.

Adding this to your skincare routine helps your moisturizer work better and plump the skin.

Foundation

4. Switch out your foundation

A light beauty balm might be enough in the summer to keep you cool and your skin covered without sacrificing your natural color.

But, in the fall, it’s better to switch out to a continuous cover foundation to give your skin the extra coverage it needs.

As the weather transitions, mix your beauty balm and foundation with your primer to ease your skin into a heavier application.

Blush

5. Tone down your blushes and bronzers

Another thing you might think about swapping is your blush. If you lose a little bit of color in the winter, tone down your more vibrant summery blushes.

Additionally, you want to wear slightly less bronze in the fall. Bronzer is great when you want a sun-kissed look for the summer, but in the fall you want to use bronzer just to give you a bit more warmth.

Tone it down and wear slightly less.

Eyeshadow

6. Switch out your eyeshadow colors depending on the tone of your skin

For eyes, you can have more fun in the fall and experience richer colors.

If you’re warm-toned, your fall colors are russets, terracotta, and greens.

Eyeshadow

If you’re cool-toned, try out the jewel, plum, and earthy shades. You can reflect those colors in both your colors and your eye makeup.

I recommend mixing and matching palettes to create unique looks.

You can also use the color combinations to create stunning looks with eyeliner. Soften your eyeliner look with these eyeshadow colors for a sultry effect.

Lipstick

7. Switch your lipsticks for softer tones

In the summer, I love to wear true coral lip colors. It brightens my face and it looks great when I’ve got a bit of color on my skin and the sun is shining.

To bring that same radiance to my skin in the fall, I like to switch to a russet lip color. It’s still got the brightness, just a bit softer.

Lipstick

You can take this rule of “same brightness, but softer” and apply it to most colors.

Switch your vibrant, poppy reds to a deeper Hollywood red. Switch from sunset glowy colors to amber. Fuschia ladies should switch to more berry-toned lips.

You can also mix your brighter colors with the autumnal colors, and have a bit of fun finding the perfect shade for you.

Fall-inspired makeup look

As the summer days shorten and fall comes, try and enjoy the change in your outfits and your makeup.

Your saucy summer looks can still translate just as well into cute fall makeup looks with just these seven tricks.

Let me know what fall colors you’re looking forward to wearing as the seasons change below!

I love seeing the makeup on a woman who’s not 15 lol. But my skin is,at 65, still so oily I have trouble finding a foundation that’s not shiny within 15 minutes. I’m constantly blotting and applying powder during the day at work

Thank you! I agree about seeing a woman in my age range! Love the eye shadow palettes….are you able to share the brand?
