What is maca root?
Before we start, I just want to explain what maca root is to those of you who may not know. It is a plant that grows in Peru. It is a superfood and has so many benefits for the body.
Maca benefits for hair and body
Maca helps with healthier hair (by stimulating growth), creates healthier glowing skin, and boosts energy. In addition, it can help to regulate anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders and can help to aid rapid muscle repair after workouts, among many other things.
Maca powder hair mask recipe
1. Combine the ingredients
Add three teaspoons of maca powder to a bowl, then add a cup of water and stir until you have a smooth consistency.
Scoop out half an avocado and blend it into your food processor. Next, add in three tablespoons of a healthy oil of choice; I chose avocado oil. Finally, scoop in the maca and water mixture.
Let the mixture blend for about 45 seconds, and then spoon it back into the bowl. If you are someone who likes a thicker or thinner mask, you can definitely tweak the recipe to fit your preference.
2. Apply the DIY maca hair mask
Dampen your hair with water (I recommend a spray bottle for this), then apply the mask to all of your hair.
3. Rinse out
After letting the mask sit for about an hour, rinse the mixture out of your hair, using your fingers to detangle your hair. Then apply shampoo and conditioner to your hair.
My hair is so moisturized and defined, even when wet.
4. Style hair
I’m going to style my hair using some leave-in conditioner and then some gel for a bit of extra hold and definition.
Once my hair is dry, I’m going to go in with some hair oil and rake it through my curls to break up the gel cast and create some more volume. Then I’m going to go in and separate any curl clumps or any frizzy pieces.
Finally, I’m going to go in and comb out my hair with a wide-tooth comb to make it nice and full and big.
