Elegant Summer Style Tips

Hot weather can make it difficult to dress elegantly. If you are sipping a cocktail by the pool, it's easy to feel and look glam, but if you're traipsing to work dreaming of air conditioning, it's much more likely that you'll just be wearing whatever the coolest item in your wardrobe is, whether you love that outfit or not. Here are a few tips and tricks for things to add to your wardrobe to ensure you're prepared and always looking and feeling your best during a heatwave.

If you are lucky enough to be off work when the heatwave hits, I find one-piece swimsuits much more glamorous than bikinis, simply because you don't see as many people wearing them. There are some stunning styles out there from brands such as Ann Summers, Boux Avenue and Agent Provocateur. It can feel even sexier when more is left to the imagination, hence a beautiful cover-up is always a good idea too. This white lacy one is from Primark and was an excellent find.

If you want a bikini but struggle to find them due to having a larger bust, there is nowhere I would recommend more than Bravissimo. The rust colour of this bikini is beautiful and so summery.

Unfortunately hot weather tends to hit when we're at work (and it normally rains when we get to the weekend!) so we're always looking for feminine, office-appropriate outfits that we can feel cool in. If wearing a shorter dress to work, knee-length is most appropriate for summer, with a skater style so that it's not too close to your body encouraging sweat. Balance out a shorter hemline with a higher neckline to avoid looking over-exposed in the office.

Look for dresses in breathable materials such as cotton or linen to help keep you cool in summer, even if you are wearing more fabric.

I spend the majority of my time working from home now and my favourite WFH outfits are these shirred dresses. This pink one is old from Zara but there are many similar options on the high street such as this pastel blue one from & Other Stories. I love these because the smocking detail gives my bust a little bit of support meaning I don't have to swelter in a bra all day. I love to choose midi dresses because they feel so glamorous and elegant yet you can just throw them on.

Depending on the style, you can definitely also wear this style of dress to the office as well.

Cut-outs are a big trend again this summer and I am such a fan! If you find the right style, they can be hugely flattering on your body, for instance nipping you in at the waist in the same way that a belt does. Having that extra bit of skin on show also helps to keep you cooler.

Of course, I always pair my summer outfits with a straw hat. It's an elegant, feminine look that has practical benefits too, keeping the damaging sun off of your delicate face.
