I’m going to share with you my go-to black and brown smokey eye look that I keep going back to because it’s absolutely stunning. This brown smokey eye makeup uses only 2 eyeshadows and you can recreate it yourself at home.

Tools and materials:

  • Eyeshadow primer
  • Assorted makeup brushes
  • Translucent powder
  • Brown eyeliner pencil
  • Black eyeliner pencil
  • Brown eyeshadow
  • Soft brow brush
  • Shimmer eyeshadow (optional)
  • Eyelash curler
  • Mascara
  • False eyelashes set
  • Tweezers
  • Blush
  • Brow pencil
  • Tinted lip conditioner

1. Prep your eyes

Apply a small amount of eyeshadow primer at the center of your mobile lid and blend it with a brush.

Applying eye primer

Why do this extra step? Some people have oily eyelids, which crease a lot, so using the primer will mattify the skin. Others have uneven skin tone on their eyelids, so the primer will provide an even canvas.

2. Apply translucent powder under your eyes

Apply a small amount of translucent powder under your lower lash line to make it easier to dust off any eyeshadow fallout later on without spoiling my base makeup.

3. Frame your eyeshadow

Use an eyeliner pencil to mark the center of your upper lash line.

Then, using that center point as a guide, draw a semi circle above it.

Then leave a bit of a gap and draw another semicircle over it.

4. Apply black eyeliner in the first semicircle

Color inside of the first semicircle using a black eyeliner pencil, but don’t go all the way up to the line to leave room for shading. Then use a smudge brush to bring the color up to that first semicircle.

5. Fill in the second semicircle with brown eyeshadow

Pick a shade of brown eyeshadow like this:

Then fill in under the second semicircle with that eyeshadow.

6. Blend

Use the same brush to blend the black and brown shades together, going back and forth between the 2 colors.

Then blend out the brown eyeshadow from above–loosening up the edges and diffusing it out.

Next, use a slightly larger brush to get a cloud-like effect at the very edge of the brown.

7. Clean up

Use a large brush to dust off any fallout under your eyes.

8. Line your lashes

Use a brow brush with brown eyeshadow to line your lower lashes for a smokey effect.

Then tightline your upper and lower lashes with the black eyeliner.

Then using a black eyeshadow, smoke out the lower lash line just below the waterline to soften it.

12. Apply false eyelashes

Choose a wispy pair of false eyelashes so you’ll be able to see the brown smokey eye makeup through them. Use tweezers to carefully apply your false lashes.
