My grandmother used to call them antimacassars and she had them on all her couches and armchairs.
She would never have dreamed of using one to make a sexy lace top for summer.
Luckily for you, I did!
Tools and materials:
- Couch headrest cover
- Fabric ties
1. Shoulder tie
I made my ties by cutting strips from an old t-shirt and stretching them lengthways.
You could use ribbon, but it won’t feel as secure.
Thread a tie through the holes in one of the shorter ends of the cover.
Hold the cover diagonally across your body.
Place the end of the cover under your arm and knot the ties together on your shoulder.
2. Top tie
Take the long edge of the cover across your body to the outside edge of your bust.
Thread a long tie through the lace edging at that point.
Pull it through so you have a doubled tie.
3. Side tie
Pull down the lower edge over the cover so it sits below your armpit on the other side.
Bring one of the top ties behind your back to meet it.
Pass the end of the tie through a hole in the lace.
Tie them together firmly at the back.
DIY lace top for summer
Granny’s antimacassar becomes a backless lace top. Perfect for summer evenings!
