Wrap skirts have become my latest obsession, and I couldn’t resist creating one using the Minerva Exclusive Enchanted Vision EcoVero Viscose Sateen Fabric . It’s the perfect choice for this project, combining softness with an elegant matte finish. I happened to find a vintage Simplicity №7487 Pattern from 1976 in my mom’s collection—it’s even older than me! I know she would be thrilled to see me bringing this gorgeous fabric to life with her pattern.

Choosing the Right Fabric for a Wrap Skirt

The Simplicity pattern was designed to be reversible, but where I live, it’s simply too hot for a double-layered skirt. One layer of this EcoVero fabric works perfectly. The fabric is incredibly soft, and honestly, I haven’t been able to stop running my hands across it since I started sewing. However, it’s not a beginner-friendly fabric—it’s drapey and requires a steady hand and lots of patience to work with.

Sewing with EcoVero Viscose Sateen

For anyone new to drapey fabrics, I recommend avoiding this one for your first project. It can be quite finicky, but if you live life on the edge and will try anything once, use code MSS243KM to receive a 10% discount on you next Minerva order.

Here are a few tips from my experience with this Fabric:

  • For stability, I always interface the entire tie when sewing. I iron the interfacing onto the fabric before cutting out the pattern, which keeps the fabric stable and makes sewing easier.
  • When sewing the skirt, I ironed the fabric before cutting and hung it for over 24 hours before hemming. This helps the fabric relax and ensures a more accurate hem. Once it’s hung, carefully trim the hem to even it out—just be cautious!
  • The fabric wasn’t wide enough to cut the back on the fold so I had to make it two pieces by first adding seam allowance to the middle back where the fold should have been.

This EcoVero fabric made a dreamy wrap skirt and a matching tie for my husband, which he adored. If you are Wrap skirt obsessed like me this vintage pattern I used is nearly impossible to find, but fear not. Simplicity has an updated skirt pattern on the Minerva wesite. It doesn’t come with the swimsuit and shirt though. It’s still super cute!
