DIY orange blossom water

The most common use for orange blossom water is to make syrup for cakes, but there are many others.

You can use orange blossom water as a natural perfume, a toner or makeup remover, a hairspray, an air freshener, or it can be used in cooking, baking and incorporated into drinks.

1. Add blossoms in a saucepan around a heatproof vessel

Place a heatproof bowl or jar in the center of a large saucepan. Next, arrange the orange blossoms around the jar.

2. Add water

Add just enough water to cover the blossoms, avoiding the jar.

The jar needs to stay above the level of the water and flowers to catch the floral water as it condenses.

3. Condense the steam

Place the lid of the saucepan upside down and close it. Put it on the stove at a medium-low heat. Bring the water to a simmer.

Then add 2 handfuls of ice to the top of the inverted lid. Let the water simmer for 20-25 minutes, adding more ice as it melts.

4. Transfer to a spray bottle

Carefully remove the lid, pouring the ice water in the sink.

Using oven mitts, lift the jar out of the saucepan and pour the water into a clean glass/amber bottle with the help of a funnel.
