How to Add Color to Your Face: Easy Makeup Tutorial for Women Over 50

This makeup tutorial for older women is all about adding color to your face.

Colorful accessories are great, but they don’t always enhance your face. So, follow along, and see how makeup will do that for you.

The products I'm using today are from the  Look Fabulous Forever range, made specifically for mature skin. However, you can achieve the same results with any brand of product.

Tools and materials:

  • Eyebrow product (blonde or suitable shade)
  • Strawberry shade lip pencil
  • Eyeshadow palette in neutral shades (taupe, cream, rose gold, etc.)
  • Forest green eye pencil (or complementary color)
  • Black mascara
  • Rose-shaded blush
  • Bronzer
  • Bold-colored lipstick
  • Blending brush
  • Eyeshadow brush
Defining the brows

1. Start with your eyebrows

Use a shade that suits your coloring. Lightly apply with short strokes, following the natural shape of your eyebrows to add subtle color and definition.

The brow product will give your face structure and help avoid the "invisible" look that often comes with aging.

Lining the lips

2. Line your lips

Use a lip pencil to line your lips. This step helps define the shape of your lips, which can fade with age, and adds instant color and structure to your face.

Applying eyeshadow

3. Apply eyeshadow

Choose a neutral palette for a soft, subtle look.

Apply a light cream shade to your brow bone to highlight and lift the area.

Then, apply a taupe or soft neutral shade over your entire eyelid for a gentle wash of color.

You can add a touch of rose gold or similar light color to the inner corners of your eyes for brightness.

Lining the eyes

4. Line your eyes

Select an eyeliner that compliments your outfit and eye color. For this look, I am using a forest green pencil.

Line your upper lash line starting about one-third from the inner corner.

Lining the eyes

Add a slight flick at the outer corner for a lifting effect.

Lining the eyes

Apply a short line under your lower lashes, just under the outer third of your iris, to enhance the eyes without overdoing it.

Deepening the eyeshadow

5. Deepen the eyeshadow

Using a darker shade from your eyeshadow palette (such as a deep green or brown), apply a small amount to the outer corners of your eyelids.

Deepening the eyeshadow

Blend the color inward using a soft blending brush to create depth and definition.

Applying mascara

6. Apply mascara

Use black mascara to lengthen and volumize your lashes. Apply two coats to the upper lashes and a light dusting to the lower lashes to make your eyes stand out.

Adding blush

7. Add blush

Apply a soft blush to the tops of your cheekbones, blending in a circular motion to lift and brighten your face.

This shade provides a natural flush without looking too bold.

Adding blush

Then, blend your blush.

Contouring

8. Contour with bronzer

Use a bronzer to lightly contour your face. Sweep it across your cheeks, forehead, and nose to give a subtle warmth and definition, mimicking the look of healthy, sun-kissed skin.

Applying lipstick

9. Finish with lipstick

Apply a bright lip color. Vibrant lipstick will bring life to your entire face, making your lips the focal point of your look.
