How to Tie a TIE Quickly and Easily

I love the androgynous look. I also adore the color combinations you can get in a man’s tie.

Put the two together and wearing a tie knotted under a shirt collar is often exactly what you need to pull an outfit together.

But to carry it off, the knot needs to be perfect. Here’s a fashion hack that means you’ll get it right every time.

Tools and materials:

  • Silky tie

1. Position

Decide how long you want the tie to be.

Place it right side up on your open palm, with the wide end lying on the inside of your forearm and your fingertips where the knot will be.

2. Wrap

Take the narrow end of the tie under your fingers.

Keeping it flat and taut, wrap it across your palm and under your thumb.

Make a second wrap partially overlapping the first.

Wrap again, but this time take the end around your thumb instead of under it.

3. The knot

Let go of the narrow end.

Place two fingers of your free hand under the top loop.

Style it up and tuck away the ends or leave them loose.

The knot is smooth and flat and large enough to be flattering and your outfit has the perfect finishing touch.

Let me know if you find this fashion hack easier than tying the knot conventionally.
