How To Do Gel Nails to Elevate Your Outfit

I like to think that nails elevate your outfit to make you look clean and polished.

There are many reasons people like to do their nails at home rather than in a salon, such as: not having the time, the budget or even just having social anxiety.

Standard nail polish doesn’t always last as it can be easily chipped as well as issues with it not setting quick enough or not being able to control the product from flooding the cuticles.

So gel polish is the preferred option.

Like polish, Gel can also have its problems such as peeling too quickly. This can usually be solved by prepping the natural nails more efficiently.

No matter the length of the nail, I like to start by shaping it. Sometimes a short square shape can look clean and classy.

I then like to use a cuticle stick to push back the cuticle which leaves a longer nail bed which can look more flattering.

This is the time where you can trim the dead skin around your cuticles if you wish to do so.

Then I would use a wipe to remove any oils and file dust. You can use an acid free dehydrator which can help make the gel polish last longer.

A base coat is best to protect your natural nail but also create a smooth surface and adhesive for the gel to adhere to. You then cure this for 30 - 90 seconds (depending on your uv lamp)

It doesn’t matter what colour gel you like to use but I would always suggest applying in thin layers to prevent peeling.

After you have applied 1 - 3 layers and curing in-between each it is time for the top coat.

Top coats with ensure the gel doesn’t chip. Using one will make your nails look more professionally done and create a nice glossy shine. Having all the layers of the gel polishes will create a thick layer on top of your natural nail and this will protect your nail from breaking.

Finally you can use a cuticle oil to hydrate the skin around your nail bed and then use a hand cream to soften them.
