Fall Outfits When It’s Still Warm Out

I love fall most of all! It’s true. I’m one of those people who geek out for fall as soon as September arrives. But this year, I was slower to get into it than usual. I realized it was because it’s been hot outside! I moved to an area a few years ago where we are lucky to have all four seasons in all their glory. Fall is especially colorful, with the leaves turning. Usually, the weather turns crisp at the end of September, but this year, the hot weather has lingered well into October. I recently went to a fall festival, and it was 90 degrees out, which didn’t feel very festive at all. And I was overdressed because I wanted to wear my fun fall layers. For some of you who live in the Southern states, fall may always be warm for you.

So what can you do if you want to dress for fall but it’s so darn hot? Here is some inspiration for fall outfits when it’s still warm out.

Gingham Pants and Seasonal T-Shirt

I’m a big fan of capri pants during the shoulder seasons. They’re not shorts but not full pants, so they feel cooler and lighter. Pick some in a seasonal color or print like gingham, which always feels right for fall festivals, apple picking and pumpkin patches. Pair them with a fun seasonal graphic T-shirt like this one with a nod to the “Hocus Pocus” Sanderson Sisters or find one with pumpkins, apples or fall leaves. It will keep you cool but still feel right in the season, and you can always throw a jacket on if it cools down at night. If you want to make it more stylish, check out my past article on how to cinch a T-shirt.

 Shop seasonal t-shirts.

Don’t forget to think about footwear. Once September comes around, open-toe shoes just feel wrong. But if it’s still hot out, you don’t want booties yet. You want something that will keep your feet cool. So pull out those little sneakers, flats, closed-toe mules, and loafers for appropriate fall footwear and get some wear out of them before it’s so cold your feet are freezing.

It’s so disappointing when the weather is warm, and you can’t start piling on the fun layers of sweaters, vests and jackets. But you can still up your layer game with a light vest over a dress with fall colors. Add a chunky belt and some flats, and it will feel like you’ve updated your look from summer. Shop light vest.

Long-sleeve T-shirt and Bermuda Shorts

I love long-sleeve t-shirts when the weather is transitioning seasons. They’re light enough to avoid getting hot, and the sleeves keep off the cool breezes. Plus, you can layer them over another T-shirt. When it’s still warm out, but you can tell that crisp fall air is trying to break through, a long-sleeve t-shirt on its own is just right. Wear one over some long Bermuda shorts, which are long enough to feel you have some coverage and are season-appropriate but keep you cool when the sun heats things up in the afternoon. Then add a fall-colored scarf, and you will have a look that is perfect for 70-degree weather days. Don’t forget the right shoes. Loafers with no socks are just right. Shop long-sleeve t-shirts.

Now that you know how to dress for a warm fall season, will you try it?
