Fall Trend Report: Denim on Denim

Fall has rolled in quickly and so have new fashion trends to set the scene for a fresh new season! To help you stay on top of the latest styles and trends, I thought I would share my approach to a classic favourite, denim on denim (also known as a Canadian tuxedo)! Here are three ways to style this super on trend style for Fall!

This look is a casual style that makes for an easy weekend outfit! If you're just starting to explore denim on denim, try out an outfit like this one. I paired a denim jacket with a denim mini dress, plus added a denim bag to really tie everything together. It doesn't matter whether the jacket and the dress are the same wash since there are only two main clothing pieces in this look! Such an easy way to pull off this trend.

For my other accessories, I chose to wear comfy sneakers with a pair of crisp white socks. I love the combination of a completely monochromatic look paired with comfortable shoes, which makes the whole outfit so much more wearable and easy to throw on.

In this version, I played with pink and denim. I'm wearing a denim skirt and jacket set in the same denim shade. Then, hot pink was the colour I chose to make this look pop. A cropped tank with some lace detailing, a bag, and heeled sandals made this look more elevated.

I think this would be a great option for going out for dinner or drinks, or for a girls event! You could also choose any colour to add to the denim styling in place of pink. I find vibrant colours work best to add contrast.

For this option, I worked with all different shades of denim in one look. My trench and skirt are similar in their light wash, while my bag and flats are a darker hue. A nice bright white top was added as a focal point and I think it helped to solidify the mismatched denim and make the whole outfit look more cohesive. Try mixing and matching your denim with white next time you want to try out different washes in the same outfit.
