Creating your own makeup products can be a fun and rewarding experience, and making black eyeliner at home is no exception.

Not only is this DIY eyeliner natural and customizable, but it’s also waterproof, making it perfect for long-lasting wear.

In this tutorial, we’ll guide you through the process of crafting your own black eyeliner using simple ingredients.

Tools and materials:

  • Flat cotton wool
  • Ajwain seeds (carom seeds)
  • Almonds
  • Desi ghee (clarified butter)
  • Diya (small oil lamp)
  • Matches
  • Metal plate
  • Small container for storage
  • Coconut oil
How to make a DIY eyeliner

1. Prepare the base

Start by placing a flat piece of cotton wool down on a clean surface. Sprinkle ajwain seeds evenly over the cotton wool, followed by a layer of ground-up almonds.

2. Roll it up

Carefully roll the cotton wool with the ajwain and almonds to form a small bati (a round shape). Once done, proceed to make another.

3. Set up the diya

Take two batis and place them into the diya (small oil lamp) in a criss-cross shape. Place an almond in the center and then pour a small amount of desi ghee over it.

4. Light the diya

Light the four corners of the diya, ensuring that the bati is burning well. The ajwain and almonds will create a natural kohl.

5. Cover with metal plate

Once the bati is burning steadily, place a metal plate over the top to catch the soot.

6. Scrape off kohl

After a few minutes, you’ll see black soot collecting on the plate. Carefully scrape this kohl off. Once done, transfer the collected kohl into a small container.

7. Add coconut oil

Add a few drops of coconut oil to the kohl. This will help to mix it smoothly and enhance its waterproof properties. Stir the mixture until it reaches a creamy consistency.

Once done, it’s time to apply it!
