How To Wear Trouser Shorts

As someone who generally prefers dresses and skirts over shorts, I have enjoyed the new trend in trouser shorts. This is an elevated and sophisticated style of shorts that mimics a trouser style pant. I picked up a pair from Amazon in a neutral beige and these shorts are amazing! So let me show you a few ways to wear trouser shorts this summer.

The key to styling trouser shorts is to keep it classic. Also, since the leg opening is wide you will want to use the same principles that you would think about when wearing wide leg pants. That means you will want a top that is more on the fitted side, or preferably tucked in.

Here I wore my favorite black fitted tee from Target, a simple necklace and some black bow slides that I have had for years. So easy, yet so put together.

Ya’ll know I love a button down shirt! This is one of my favorite looks with a pair of trouser shorts. I found this one last year at Banana Republic Outlet, but I will link some similar options. You could substitute any solid color button down or a print….shop your closet and see what you have.

A summer sweater is another perfect pairing with trouser shorts. This teal green sweater is part of an Amazon pants set that I love. It looks good with these shorts because the length of the sweater is perfect for a subtle front tuck.

Accessorize with your favorite sunnies and some sandals and you will look so sophisticated.

Now let me show you how to dress these trouser shorts down just a bit. This tank top is from Walmart, and what I like about it is the thickness of the fabric and the cut of the shirt. I picked them up in two colors and they are a great casual summer top for hot days. This is a junior brand, so size up – I’m wearing a large. These tops are only $5!

Since the tank is not very long, this is a good example of how you could wear a top untucked with these shorts. The proportions work out well, and I just added my favorite espadrille sneakers to complete the look. This pair is similar.

My only complaint about these shorts is that the fabric does not look exactly like the photo on the Amazon website. The Amazon photo shows a more heathered fabric, while in real life they are a solid polyester. This is not a deal breaker for me as I still really love the shorts, but it is not represented accurately on Amazon.

If you are traveling any time soon, this would be such a great essential piece to take with you. They don’t wrinkle too easily, and as you can see they can be styled so many ways! I really wouldn’t mind purchasing another pair in a different color. Also, if you like a modest pair of shorts, I think you will like the length and fit of these.
