Pearl hats are so trendy right now and so girly and feminine. I wanted to add pearls to my team’s headgear and came up with this chic design.

It takes a bit of time but you’ll have something unique when you’re done.

Tools and materials:

  • Pearl strings
  • Hand sewing needle
  • Strong cotton or beading thread
  • Hot glue gun (optional)
Baseball cap

1. Your supplies

You can use a hat with your team’s logo already on it, as I did.

Or get a plain hat and an embroidered letter and hot glue it in place.

Pearls

You’ll also need some short strings of pearls in various sizes.

Cutting pearl strings

3. The pearls

You need individual beads for this, so start by cutting through the pearl strings over a tray.

Threading the pearls

3. Beading

Thread your needle with strong cotton or beading thread and double it.

Knot the ends together.

Bring your needle through the hat from the inside to the outside.

Thread the first bead on to the needle.

Slide the bead down to the surface of the hat and secure it with a tiny stitch.

Continue adding beads around the outline of the letter, sewing them in place individually as you go.

Mix in pearls of different sizes to keep things interesting.

You can add as many rows of beads as you want.

I settled on a single row to make the letter stand out.

Pearls in a contrasting color would look good too. Or if your team’s logo is colored, use pearls or beads in the same shade.
