DIY Butterfly Hair Clips
Did you know that you can make the cutest DIY hair clips at home, and enjoy some relaxation time while you’re at it?
I promise, once you try this DIY fashion hack, you’ll reuse it for all kinds of designs!
I chose to make butterfly hair clips, because it’s a design that lends itself to fabulous coloring options. Butterflies are also symmetrical, and that works best for DIY hair clips.
Tools and materials:
- Paper
- Printer
- Colored markers
- Scissors
- Modge Podge
- Craft paint brush
- Bobby pins
1. Choose and print your design
Find a design that you want to use for your hair clips, and copy and paste it several times into a document.
Tip: When looking for designs, try searching for “coloring pages” to get images that are simple outlines and ready for you to color.
Print your document on your home printer.
2. Add color
Here’s where you get to channel your inner-child. Enjoy some relaxation as you color in your designs.
You can think about outfits you might wear your DIY hair clips with, and color some to match those outfits, or go wild with color so you can wear them with anything!
3. Cut your designs
Carefully cut out your colored designs.
Here are two butterfly designs that I did.
4. Stiffen your paper designs
With a small craft paintbrush, apply a coating of Modge Podge to your cut designs.
5. Prepare your design for clips
Here’s where having symmetrical designs is useful.
Fold your design in half, vertically.
Having an even weight on each side will help your hair clip from skipping off-kilter.
5. Add a clip
Open your folded designs and now, just slide a bobby pin on to the center fold line.
Have the flat side of the bobby pin facing up and the grip side of the bobby pin at the back.
All that’s left to do is clip your butterfly (or whatever design you chose) into your hair!
